PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
NYU and Jessica McEntee Have Stellar Week
WHITE PLAINS, NY (26 January 2009) – The NYU women’s basketball team (15-1, 4-1 UAA) is again playing very well, ranked #11/#12 in the country. Last week the Violets swept both games of a long road trip, winning at Emory University in Atlanta 66-59 and at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland 72-67 in overtime. Leading the way was senior forward Jessica McEntee (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy), who earns this week’s PrestoSports/MBWA Player of the Week.
The 5’11” forward averaged 26.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in 37.0 minutes per game. In the victory over Emory, she finished with a game-high 26 points and nine rebounds in a full 39 minutes of action. McEntee then scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the second half, including an old-fashioned three-point play with 29.8 seconds remaining in regulation that forced overtime, in an eventual triumph at Case Western Reserve. She also finished with 11 rebounds for her 11th double-double, added four assists and three steals. In addition, she moved into fourth place on the Violets’ career scoring charts, pushing her all-time total to 1,495 points.
NYU will host the University of Chicago Friday night at 6:00 p.m. before hosting Washington University of St. Louis Sunday at two.

About the PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Player of the Week Award
Celebrating its fifth season, the Player of the Week Award is granted on a weekly basis by the New York Area Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Each week, each of the nearly 75 schools that play college basketball in the Tri-state area have the ability to nominate one male and one female student-athlete, based upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days. An esteemed panel of media members votes to select the winners from the nominations. All players who receive votes, but are not named the Player of the Week, are then named to the Honor Roll.
