Week Eleven Men's Release
PRESTOSPORTS/MBWA MEN'S
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Charles Jenkins Paces Pride
WHITE PLAINS, NY (23 February 2009) – Hofstra’s
Charles Jenkins (Queens, NY/Springfield Gardens)
is the PrestoSports/MBWA Player of the Week for leading the Pride
to a 2-0 week. Hofstra (19-1; 10-6 CAA) beat James Madison 99-96
and Fairfield 61-56.
The sophomore guard had a career night in leading Hofstra to a
99-96 double-overtime win over James Madison on Wednesday in a
battle between two teams tied in the CAA standings. Jenkins
finished with 32 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds, and added a
pivotal steal off an inbounds pass in the final minute of the
second overtime. The 13 assists marked the highest total for a
Hofstra player in 12 years, since Speedy Claxton had 13 in the
1997-98 season. Jenkins added 13 points and nine assists against
Fairfield in the ESPNU BracketBuster.
This is the second time Jenkins has earned the PrestoSports/MBWA
Player of the Week this year. Additionally, he was also named the
CAA Player of the Week today, also for the second time this
season.
Hofstra will next be in action when it travels to Georgia State on
Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest before closing out the regular
season at home against UNC Wilmington on Saturday at 4 p.m.

About the PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Player of the Week
Award
Celebrating its fifth season, the Player of the Week Award
is granted on a weekly basis by the New York Area Metropolitan
Basketball Writers Association. Each week, each of the nearly 75
schools that play college basketball in the Tri-state area have the
ability to nominate one male and one female student-athlete, based
upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days.
An esteemed panel of media members votes to select the winners from
the nominations. All players who receive votes, but are not named
the Player of the Week, are then named to the Honor Roll.
