Men's Release Week Seven

Paris Horne Leads the Red Storm

WHITE PLAINS, NY (26 January 2009) – This week’s men’s PrestoSports/Met Basketball SJU's Paris Horne Writers Association Player of the Week is Paris Horne (Middletown, DE/Bridgton (ME) Academy) of St. John’s (11-8, 2-5 BIG EAST). Horne, SJU’s sophomore starting shooting guard, averaged 23.5 points per game during a week where St. John’s posted a 70-59 victory over Rutgers at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 24, two days after the Red Storm fell, 71-60, to Cincinnati at the Carnesecca Arena.
Horne put up outstanding numbers across the board. He fired at a 78.3 percent clip from the field (18-of-23) and drilled 63.6 percent of his 3-point attempts (7-of-11). He also added nine rebounds (4.5 per game), dealt five assists (2.5 per game) and made three steals (1.5 per outing). On Saturday against the Scarlet Knights, Horne connected on his first eight shot attempts and finished 12-for-13 from the floor en route to a game-high and career-best 27 points. His near-perfect day from the field marked the third-best performance ever for a St. John’s player in a BIG EAST game. Horne’s only erroneous field goal attempt was a 3-pointer at the end of the first half, and he finished 3-of-4 on the day from long distance. Horne has now reached the 20-point plateau in three of the last four games, including putting up a 20-spot against the Bearcats. His 6-of-10 effort from the field included a career-best 4-of-7 performance from 3-point range.
The Red Storm head to Morgantown to face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Wednesday before hosting the South Florida Bulls on Sunday.

About the PrestoSports/MBWA Weekly Player of the Week Award
Celebrating its fifth season, the Player of the Week Award is granted on a weekly basis by the New York Area Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Each week, each of the nearly 75 schools that play college basketball in the Tri-state area have the ability to nominate one male and one female student-athlete, based upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days. An esteemed panel of media members votes to select the winners from the nominations. All players who receive votes, but are not named the Player of the Week, are then named to the Honor Roll.
